We believe that grades are a symbol of learning and are used to communicate to students and parents the degree of learning that a student has demonstrated.
CMIS Teachers:
- Understand the difference between assessment and reporting/grading
- Assess the standard only
- Allow students to retake summative assessments, when appropriate
- Provide students with a variety of assessment types
- Provide a balance of assessment types
- Differentiate their assessment products when possible
- Provide a space for students to productively “fail” and take risks that do not affect their grade
