Last week, grade 6 students were able to get vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine in the auditorium. We are excited to continue to offer more vaccination opportunities on campus for our students!

On Friday, Interact Club sold samosas in order to send all the profits to UNICEF in Ukraine. UNICEF is short for United Nations Children's fund. Right now, UNICEF is providing health, hygiene, and education supplies to children who are impacted by the war in Ukraine.

Happy International Women's Day!
.
Each year International Women's Day is given a theme, which often relates to contemporary events, trends and struggles. This year the focus is on 'breaking the bias.'
.
"Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias. Celebrate women's achievement. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality."

After several weeks of writing, editing, revising, reviewing and rewriting, the students in 4B have finished their survival stories. We celebrated their monumental achievement with a Survival Day. They did a gallery walk, read alouds and role plays in the morning. To test their knowledge, agility and grit, students did a speed obstacle race where they raced around an obstacle course, answering questions along the way. Some even ate a bug or two for extra team points! Well...that is how you survive in the wilderness!

Grade 1 students have been learning about air and weather in Science class. In this particular class we were focusing on wind. Using bubbles was a great way to help us see what speed the air moves, and in which direction!

Over the past few weeks a student and I worked with the CMIS Design Team to create a memorable yearbook cover for the 2020-2021 school year. The digital layout is inspiring, thoughtful and full of energy. I've included images of her design process from start to finish to showcase how much work went into the cover's design. Great work!

"The design represents freedom, and "flying towards a brighter future" if you will. When starting to design the cover, I knew immediately that I wanted to include eagles onto the cover to represent us, CMIS. Also I wanted to make full use of the space I had for the cover. Many thumbnail sketches later, I settled on a design where we're flying high, above the clouds. Composition wise, I made it so that eagles are lined up in a trail flying towards the light and the clouds below the eagles to emphasize the height they're flying at. I chose a much brighter and more sky-like color scheme because it made the cover feel more alive and more 'playful' in a sense; which also helped emphasize all the bright memories we made throughout this year."
