This is a college level chemistry course built around six big ideas of chemistry, and seven science practices. The big ideas, core concepts central to chemistry, are as follows: structure, properties, reactions, rate, thermodynamics, and equilibrium. The science practices, key processes in which scientists engage, include scientific questioning, working with scientific explanations and theories, planning and implementing data analysis strategies, and using mathematics appropriately. There is a significant hands-on laboratory component to this course, and students are required to maintain a notebook to record lab activities. This record of lab activities, along with test scores and performance in the final exam will contribute towards the course grade. All class activities and assessments are directed towards students achieving success in the AP Chemistry exam.
