CMISUS History presents students with an in-depth look at the development of the United States, from the pre-colonial period to the 21st century. Students are asked to examine the social, political, philosophical, and economic development of the United States; become familiar with the key people, laws, military engagements and social events/trends impacting that development; and recognize outside/foreign influences on US development, as well as US influences on broader world affairs. In addition to the factual study of history, students will learn to identify cause and effect relationships, analyze historical documents and commentaries, and write clear, organized, well-thought pieces. As such, the course requires a significant amount of reading, both of the course text and supplemental texts, and writing.
