Troop 731 of Scouts BSA is a diverse group of 11-17 year olds from many different schools and nationalities who scout together. We meet two Mondays a month from 6-7:30pm at CMIS (our chartered organization). Most months we have a camping trip or other outdoor adventure. We also do service projects, fundraisers and workshops to learn lots of important skills (e.g. first aid, cooking, knots). Scouts is youth-led and the program is planned and run by scouts who are elected. Adult volunteers mentor the youth leaders and provide support to facilitate the program (e.g. teach skills, serve as merit badge counselors, etc) and ensure a safe program. Scouts BSA used to be Boy Scouts of America, but has been open to scouts of all genders for the last few years. Scouts often say their favorite part of scouting is all the time with friends and the outdoor adventures. Adults and families love that their kids get so many cool experiences and develop leadership and responsibility. Over the school holiday, some scouts will be working on merit badges (like horsemanship) but we'll be back with our regular meeting and monthly outings in August.
