Team Sports is only offered in the fall semester. It is designed to offer a more competitive environment for students who want to improve their skills in team sports such as basketball, football, and volleyball. Other team sports such as ultimate frisbee, floor hockey, futsal, kinball, and handball may also be included. Students will be challenged to play at their highest levels, improve their physical fitness and athleticism, and examine various elements of leadership and teamwork that can be applied in sport and other areas of life. In addition, students will improve their knowledge of how competitive sports contribute to a healthy lifestyle. Fitness and athletic assessments will be emphasized in this course. Students should expect fun, fast-paced games and activities that will accelerate their skill development and physical fitness. General health and injury prevention topics will also be included. Formative and summative assessments will be included periodically throughout the year. Course can be repeated.
Personal Fitness & Wellness is only offered in the spring semester. It is designed with the less competitive student in mind. The goal of this course is to foster an appreciation for personal fitness and lifelong physical wellness by exposing students to a variety of activities that can be pursued for health and enjoyment. Activities that may be included are bodyweight training, walking and jogging, flexibility training, free weight training, group aerobics, yoga, badminton, table tennis, pickleball, archery, and darts. Fitness testing will be part of the course with students being expected to set personal fitness goals which they will work towards through the semester. General health and wellness topics will be covered as well. Formative and summative assessments will be included periodically throughout the year. Course can be repeated.
