This course will incorporate concepts form Discrete Math along with concepts needed for the SAT test it is geared for students interested in a high school math course not in the Advanced Placement stream. The course emphasizes the development of mathematical reasoning and explores methods of abstract thinking. Students engage in an in-depth study of functions, relations, and counting techniques, as well as an introductory investigation of logic, proof, and elementary number theory. Discrete Math opens up new mathematical horizons to students who may have previously struggled with a more algebraic approach. It also lays the foundation for the math constructs that are critical for computer programming. Lessons are crafted to develop a deep understanding of math concepts, as well as sharpen students' skill in the "doing" of math. The CMIS Philosophy of Math shapes the learning experience
