Health Office

The CMIS Health Office

The CMIS Health Office is dedicated to the health, safety, and wellbeing of every student and staff member in our school community. Our qualified nursing team provides first aid for injuries and illnesses, and takes care of students and staff who become unwell during the school day. We work closely with families to develop Individualized Health Care Plans for students with ongoing health conditions, and ensure that any required medications or special medical procedures are administered safely and professionally within the school setting.

As part of the Student Support Department, our nurses carry out routine health screenings for students, including vision checks, BMI monitoring, and scoliosis assessments. We also play an important role in monitoring and preventing the spread of communicable diseases, helping to keep our school environment as safe and healthy as possible for everyone.

Health education and promotion are central to our work. We actively encourage healthy habits, good nutrition, and overall wellness throughout the school community, and we work alongside the cafeteria team to support healthy eating at school, including the oversight of bake sales and food-related events.

Our team also contributes to whole-school safety by helping to coordinate evacuation and lockdown drills, and by providing triage support in the event of an emergency. We develop and review health policies and programs to ensure our practices remain current and effective. Additionally, we offer basic health checks for teaching and support staff, and are available to advise families and help liaise with hospitals and medical services in Chiang Mai when needed.

CMIS Health Policies

Air pollution is a problem all over Thailand, but in the burning season (usually Feb - April) the pollution in Chaing Mai gets particularly bad as there is no wind to take the smoke away.

During this time, the Health Office and Athletic Department closely monitor pollution levels throughout the day by checking the Air Quality Index (AQI). From this, we are able to make decisions about any activity restrictions at school.

CMIS Air Quality Standards and Activity Level Guidelines are aligned with the Environmental Production Agency of the US Government are included below.

Following Thailand's official end of the COVID-19 Emergency Decree on 30th September 2022, CMIS has eased its COVID-19 protocols in line with guidance from the Thailand Ministry of Public Health and Ministry of Education.

While restrictions have been relaxed, our Health Office remains vigilant. We continue to monitor students for any relevant symptoms and, as always, assess and treat each child according to their individual symptoms.

The Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Thai Public Health Department recommend that children receive vaccinations against certain communicable diseases. In accordance with these guidelines the CMIS Vaccination policy has been developed:

All new students must provide evidence of vaccination by completing the Immunization section in the Health Form and attaching a copy of their immunization records.

CMIS requires the following immunizations for all children attending CMIS:

  • Dtap

  • Polio

  • MMR

  • HiB (if under 5)

  • Hep A

  • Hep B

  • Japanese Encephalitis

We also recommend the following immunizations:

  • Varicella

  • Typhoid

  • Meningococcal

  • HPV

  • Rabies

  • Influenza

  • BCG (TB Vaccine)

If you need any advice on immunizations or have any questions about our immunization requirements at CMIS please contact the Health Office.
