AP Biology is a college-level biology course structured around the following four big ideas of biology: evolution, the use of free energy, information, and interactions. The course aims to give students an understanding of life processes from the molecular scale to the functioning of ecosystems. An important component of the course is laboratory inquiry in which students will engage in science practices which include scientific questioning, working with scientific explanations and theories, planning and implementing data analysis strategies, and using mathematics appropriately. The course is assessed through lab reports, tests, final exams, and research papers (in which students integrate two or more big ideas). All class activities and assessments are directed towards students achieving success in the AP exam.
