This course builds on the skills and concepts learned in middle school while diving deeper into phenomena central not only to the earth and space sciences, but to life and physical sciences as well. Students will develop their skills in math and chemistry in order to discover mysteries reaching far into the abyss of space and deep into the belly of the earth. Students study the formation and nature of stars, galaxies, and other cosmic phenomena. They will also learn how the solar system is held together and how the earth was formed. Students will use models to learn about matter and energy cycling within the earth. Students will connect the history of earth's systems to current weather patterns and how living things shape the earth. Furthermore, students are asked to consider the impact humans have on the various systems of the earth. Students will look at the natural world through an environmental lens.
