CMIS understands that the middle school years can have a profound impact upon the cognitive, social, and emotional lives of young teens. To help students with this transition, we have developed a school model that includes mentor relationships between teachers and students, the creation of small communities of learners, and community outreach projects. Our middle school includes instruction in the core subjects of English, mathematics, science, social studies, world languages, and offers selected subjects in the areas of PE, wellness, art, computers, music, drama, and independent study projects. All students are provided with a Google Chromebook and authentic opportunities to use technology in their content subjects and electives.
I first came to CMIS as a 7thgrader. It was initially challenging to make friends and find my feet; but, as connections were built, I discovered that the CMIS community is a special one. I ended up spending 5 years at the school as a student and then returned as a teacher in 2002. Why? The same community that drew me in as a student, continues to appeal to me as an adult. I appreciate the warmth of "family" that we can build together as we seek to support and challenge one another for learning.
