CMIS Stories

CMIS features photos and videos in our CMIS Gallery and on our CMIS Social Media Platforms.  Below are some recent highlights.

Starting this Friday, December 1, some artworks from Elementary, Middle, and High School will be on display in the CMIS Commons. Students and staff will be able to enjoy this little exhibition for a week.
- Mr. Jon
Here is an update on what the High School art classes have been up to lately.
In the 3D-Art class, students have been working on an assignment titled "A Home of My Own." For this project, the students were assigned to draw a 2D-floor plan of their first apartment or dorm room. The plans had to be realistic and situated in the city or country the students hope to live in while at university. The students also came up with individual budgets for the interior design of their apartments. By using the IKEA website, they made inventory lists of everything they will have to buy for their future homes including furniture, linens, kitchen utensils and so much more.
As a next step, the students made scale models of their apartments using cardboard. The final and still ongoing assignment is to make artworks for their new homes including both small thumbnail versions for their scale models as well as the actual artworks.
In the Drawing/Painting class, the students have just finished a unit on mythology, ink drawing, and book illustration. As a summative assignment, they each made a book page for our “Mythological Encyclopedia."

On November 22nd, a group of CMIS students competed online in the Regional International Science Bee against students from South Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. CMIS did very well in this competition with one student taking third in the varsity division and another took fourth in the junior varsity division. Additionally, four students in the varsity division and three students in the junior varsity division qualified for the 2021 Asian Championships Science Bee competition.
-Mr. Melby
During this semester, students from Grade 8 English have been studying poetry from World War 1, culminating in an assessment summarizing and analyzing poems from that period. Some students creatively presented their work in notebooks, such as these.
Grade 8 English students have also been studying the Pulitzer Prize winning graphic novel Maus. For the assessment many students chose to demonstrate their understanding in inventive formats, such as letters, diaries, or even by creating their own graphic novel excerpts.
- Coach Jeremy
This week the primary school students started the Christmas Competition in collaboration with the Elephant POOPOOPAPER Park. They designed Christmas cards using special POOPOOPAPER. A winner from each grade will win a limited edition CMIS journal made from the Elephant POOPOOPAPER Park. Congratulations to all of the winners of the competition!

We would like to thank everyone for the generous donations to Interact Club's annual Winter Clothing Drive! Your generosity will help children in the mountains stay warm during these cold winter nights. The clothes have been collected and will shortly be delivered. We truly appreciate your efforts and commitment to helping the children. We couldn't do it without you. Thank you!
